COURTESY AT DANCES
On the dance floor, don't mumble when asking for a dance.
According to the rules, the boy should say, "May I have this dance?" The girl answers, "You may," "With pleasure," Yes, certainly," or " I'm sorry, but I have this one." A girl always precedes her partner to the dance floor.
Don't monopolize one section of the dance floor. And no matter how romantic you feel, don't dance cheek to cheek or with your eyes closed. Not only is this bad form, but it might lead to collisions.
No girl should twine her arm all the way around her escort's neck or lean too heavily on his manly chest.
After the dance, the boy may applaud the orchestra, but the girl should refrain. The girl always precedes her partner off of the dance floor. When the dance is over, he says to her, "Thank you for the dance." She answers, "You are welcome."
At school dances, remember the chaperones are giving their time for your enjoyment and should be repaid by your courtesy. (1) Always come up and speak to them, not only when you arrive, but also just before you leave; (2) See that the chaperones enjoy themselves.
Remember: The over-stepping of a few may take away the rights of many.
